How To Start And Stop A Porsche Hybrid Car

Many people might feel intimidated about getting a Porsche hybrid vehicle sighting the fact that it may sound too technical to operate. However, this could not be further from the truth. Porsche is one of the innovators in the industry in coming up with technologies that make their newer vehicles more intuitive to use while still employing complex systems and software. In hybrid vehicles such as the Porsche Panamera starting and stopping the vehicle is easy even if the key fob has a dead battery or is lost. The steps needed to start Porsche hybrid vehicles in general include:

Starting A Porsche Hybrid Using the Key Fob

To start a Porsche hybrid vehicle if they keep fob is functional, you only need to do the following:

  • Open the doors and get into the vehicle. make sure that you have the key fob with you.
  • Make sure that the gearbox is in “park”
  • It is ideal to ensure that electronics such as the radio, climate control, and headlights are off.
  • Press the brake pedal and then press the stop-start button usually located to the right of the steering wheel.
  • Depending on the variant of the hybrid vehicle, you may need to press the Start Stop button again which will then switch on the vehicle.

You will know that the vehicle is on when the instrument cluster lights up, showing you the gear position and other indicators. With hybrid vehicles, you should not expect to hear the engine running unless you are above a certain speed, usually over around 40 miles an hour. Below this speed, the vehicle will run on battery power which will be very quiet but otherwise similar to driving a regular car. All the other functions you expect of your vehicle will be available even when in hybrid mode.

Switching off the vehicle is as easy as stopping at a safe place, putting the gearbox in “park” and then pressing the Start Stop button. You will know that the vehicle is off when the infotainment system screen and instrument cluster all shut down. Make sure that all accessory electronics including the headlights are also switched off.

Starting The Vehicle Without the Key Fob

You may find yourself having to stretch the vehicle without using the key fob. This is common when the battery to the key form is drained or when the key fob is somehow damaged. To start the vehicle in this state, follow these steps:

  • get into the vehicle
  • Get the accessory dummy key, which is usually a metal key.
  • Find the compartments in the front of the center console, usually on the left of the cup holder. There should be a slot for the dummy key.
  • Insert the dummy key into this slot and then turn it to the start position and back off twice. On the second attempt, the vehicle will start and recognize the key fob. It should therefore be within the vehicle even if the battery is dead.
