How To Install New Porsche Windshield Wipers

If you live in a climate with frequent rain or harsh winters filled with ice and snow, you’ll probably have to replace your Porsche’s windshield wipers on a yearly basis; otherwise they will dirty the windshield and make it appear unsightly. Below is a guide to doing this.

Step One

Check to see if the rubber within the blades remains smooth and is not falling apart or dry rotted. If so, all you have to do is clean the wipers while washing the car rather than replacing them outright. To do this, take some rubbing alcohol and paper towels then use them to wipe down the wiper blades. You should see black residue in the towel, which is a good sign. Continue wiping until the dark towel marks no longer appear.

Step Two

Apply WD-40 to the wiper arm’s hinge so it becomes lubricated. This will ensure smooth operation when the wipers are turned on.

Step Three

Measure both wipers or refer to the manual to determine what sized blade you’ll need. Different Porsches require specific sizes for its passenger and driver sides, and you don’t want to purchase the wrong ones.

Step Four

Some Porsches come with rear wipers, especially the Macan and Cayenne, so you’ll need replacements for them as well. Though they don’t deteriorate as fast as the wipers in front, continual sunlight exposure will gradually wear them out.

Step Five

Take the floor mat or a cardboard piece and place it on the windshield to protect it in case its wiper arm slips. If its wiper arm is accidentally released, it might slam down onto the windshield, which could scratch, shatter or crack it.

Step Six

Activate the vehicle’s ignition and the windshield wipers briefly until they move into the windshield’s center. Turn the wipers and vehicle off with the blades in the center so the wiper arms can be vertically extracted.

Step Seven

Locate the release tab where its arm touches the blade then release or click it. This should make it possible to carefully pull up its wiper blade so you can slide it away. Most wiping arms incorporate a hook like device which keeps its blades connected, while newer Porsches utilize an adapter system.

Step Eight

Once the worn wiper blade has been extracted from its arm, you’ll want to slide the replacement blade on then listen for the click sound. You might also have to close its supply release tab. The wiper blade can then be returned to the windshield, but turn on the ignition briefly to return it to the off position.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which brand of windshield wipers should I use?

Compared to other Porsche auto parts, windshield wipers are cost effective, and is perhaps the vehicle’s most affordable replacement part. Some owners prefer using OEM wiper blades, but there are other brands you can try as well.

How often should I replace the wiper blades?

It depends on where you live and how you care for the wipers. Unfortunately, many vehicle owners tend to overlook the windshield wipers until they stop working properly. If you live in a mild climate and regularly clean the wipers along with the rest of the vehicle you should only need to replace them once every two years or so.
