Depending on where you live, resetting your Porsche’s clock may be needed twice a year, in addition to checking the wiper blades, tires and other components. Below is a quick and simple guide which will help ensure your vehicle’s internal clock is properly calibrated. It applies to every Porsche Carrera and Panamera model, as well as the Cayman, Boxster, Cayenne and Macan.
Step One: Find its Lever or Rotary Knob
You first need to access the car’s multi-functional display, which comes in the form of either a rotary knob that can be found by the steering or its control lever in the right lower side. The purpose of the control lever is to manage its multi-functional display which is visible on the dashboard. Before doing this make sure to put the vehicle inside “Park” then engage its parking brake.
If your Porsche uses Multi-Function Keys in its steering wheel, its scrolling button can be used to operate the display, so you’ll want to familiarize yourself with it. The steps to using it are as follows:
To return to a previous screen, press your Return button which can be seen directly beneath its rotary knob. For Porsche models with a Steering Wheel Lever you’ll want to:
To return to a previous screen you must pull its switch to you.
Step Two: Selecting Vehicle
Now you’ll want to begin scrolling through the various screens in the multi-functional display until reaching the one that says “Vehicle.” Choose this screen.
Step Three: Selecting Settings
Begin scrolling down until your reach “Settings,” then select it.
Step Four: Choose Date & Time
Begin scrolling down until you find “Date & Time”, and then select it.
Step Five: Choose Summer Time or DST (+01:00)
Begin scrolling down and either choose “Summer Time” or DST (+01:00) depending on your Porsche model. You can also unselect the option if you wish to set your car’s clock back 1 one hour. Once you’ve unselected Summer Time or DST (+1:00), your time will move back sixty minutes.
Why Do So Many Luxury Cars Still Use Analog Clocks?
If you’re a car enthusiast, you’ve probably noticed that many vintage Porsches and other luxury vehicles still use analog clocks in addition to digital ones. Aside from the fact that digital technology is fairly recent, there are a number of reasons why some luxury car manufacturers continue to use analog time devices even today.
The first is elegance and aesthetics. Analog clocks look stylish, which is paramount in a high end vehicle. The second is that if for some reason the digital clock stops working, you’ll have the analog as a backup which will enable you to continue keeping track of the time. The final reason is because they act as a focal point within the interior and are highly functional.
