2022 Porsche Taycan vs. 2022 Mustang Mach-E

In the world of electric cars, there are two main players: Tesla and Porsche. Tesla has been around for longer, but it’s difficult to beat a company with its own automaking history. That’s where the Taycan comes in: Porsche’s first all-electric vehicle promises to be both more luxurious than anything from Elon Musk and more affordable than any other electric car on sale today.

As soon as we got our hands on one, we knew we had to compare it to its closest rival—the new Ford Mustang Mach-E. Which electric car will win the battle of the supercars?

Design & Style

  • Exterior Design

The 2022 Porsche Taycan has a sleek, muscular design that’s very much in line with the brand’s other models. It has a long wheelbase and low-slung hood, making the Taycan look powerful from all angles. The front end features Porsche’s signature split headlights, which fit well with the rest of the car’s design.

The 2022 Mustang Mach-E doesn’t have quite as low center of gravity or a long wheelbase as its competitor does; however, it does have wide track dimensions that make for solid handling on both dry and wet roads. The roofline is also lower than most other cars in its class, giving it an aggressive look on top of its already powerful performance capabilities.

  • Interior Design

The interior design of the Taycan is more luxurious, spacious and useful. It’s also noticeably more comfortable, attractive and easy to use than what you’ll find in the Mustang Mach-E.

In terms of overall aesthetics, both vehicles feature modern takes on their respective brands’ signature styling. However, the car-like cockpit layout and large center screen give off an almost futuristic vibe that contrasts with its minimalist exterior design.

Technology & Safety

It’s worth noting that the Taycan has a Level 4 self-driving capability, while the Mach-E lacks this feature. The Taycan’s full-width OLED screen also likely makes it easier to use than the Mach-E, which doesn’t have a touchscreen and sports an instrument cluster similar to that of its predecessor.

On top of all this, the Taycan is equipped with an active rear spoiler that deploys at 55 mph (88 km/h) for improved aerodynamics and stability. It lowers again at speeds below 55 mph (88 km/h).

The Taycan’s electric motor is capable of producing up to 402 hp and 571 lb-ft of torque. It gets a 0-60 mph time of 3.2 seconds and has a top speed of 155 mph, which isn’t as fast as the Mustang Mach-E but is still respectable. It also has a range of 310 miles per charge, which is less than the Mach-E’s 335 miles per charge but still impressive for an EV today.

The Bottom Line

If you’re looking for a car that will give you the most pleasure, then the Porsche Taycan is your best bet. The Mustang Mach-E is an excellent vehicle, but it can’t match up to the Taycan’s sheer performance and power. If all you care about is speed and acceleration, then this comparison has already been won by Porsche. But if you’re interested in exploring more options than just EVs and traditional cars alike, then there are other models worth considering as well.
