2022 Porsche Taycan vs. 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQC

The Taycan and the EQC have been making a lot of headlines lately, but they’re both still very hush-hush—none of us has driven either car yet. So we decided to look at what we do know: the specs. Here are four ways that the 2022 Porsche Taycan might stack up against its competition, including an SUV from one of Germany’s most famous automakers.

Design & Style

  • Exterior Design

The 2022 Porsche Taycan’s look is more aggressive than the other crossovers in its class. The big difference is the front fascia, which has a large “V” shape and a gaping grille that’s framed by LED headlights. In contrast, the 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQC ‘s front end looks like any other SUV out there: It has a wide lower air intake and thin headlights set far apart from each other. The Model X also has thin headlights, but they’re slightly rounded at the edges and are closer together than on either of these competitors (which makes them seem wider).

The Taycan also stands out with its rear end design; it features a spoiler that wraps around its tail lights instead of extending upward like on many SUVs (like those of Tesla or Mercedes-Benz). This gives off a sportier vibe than some other SUVs do—especially when combined with Porsche’s signature rear vents that sit just above where your license plate would go in normal vehicles.

  • Interior Design

Both the Taycan and EQC are notable for their unique interior designs. The Taycan has a sportier interior, with seats that hug you in tighter to the center console and a steering wheel that feels like it’s been pulled from an F1 car. The EQC is more luxurious, with leather seats that feel soft to the touch and suede accents on its door panels.

The Porsche also offers more space inside, with plenty of room in both front seats as well as backseat passengers who don’t mind sitting close together. In addition to being larger overall than the Mercedes-Benz (thanks in part to its hatchback bodystyle), it gives up less storage space than the EQC due to its lack of a rear hatchback opening.

Technology & Safety

The Porsche Taycan has more tech features than the Mercedes-Benz EQC, but the EQC has a more advanced safety system.

In terms of technology and safety, you’re going to get a lot more bang for your buck in the Taycan. The Porsche comes with two touchscreen displays that can show you information about fuel efficiency and energy usage, plus various other vehicle functions. You also get adaptive cruise control, automatic parking assist and lane keeping assistance as standard features on all trims of this electric car (excepting certain options such as white leather).

The EQC has many of these same features (less lane keeping), but they aren’t standard on every trim level like they are in the Taycan. They do come as part of a package called Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS)—which must be ordered on either Premium or Exclusive models.

Performance

The Taycan has a better range, but it’s not as far ahead as you might think. The Taycan has an electric motor system that can provide up to 310 kW and 765 lb-ft of torque, which is great for zipping around town or cruising on the highway. The EQC doesn’t have quite as much power available to it: instead, it has two electric motors that can produce up to 402 horsepower and 564 lb-ft of torque.

Both vehicles are able to get through city traffic with ease thanks to their low drag coefficients, so neither one really feels like it will be slow in a pinch.

The Bottom Line

The Porsche Taycan is a super car that will compete with the best of them. It has great styling, excellent performance and technology, and plenty of room inside.
