The 2022 Taycan and the 2022 Q8 are two of the most promising contenders in the luxury electric car game. They’re also both set to be released within just a few months of each other, so we thought it would be fun to pit them against each other head-to-head.
Design & Style
Porsche Taycan is a sportier design – the Taycan has a more aggressive front grille and headlights, as well as a long hood, longer wheelbase and sloping rear. Audi Q8 is a more conservative design. The headlight clusters of the Q8 are slightly longer and narrower than those of the Porsche Taycan, but not by much. It also has wider fenders, so it appears longer than its predecessor but not as extreme as that of its competitor.
Audi Q8’s front end is less aerodynamic than that of the Porsche Taycan due to its wider fenders and lower grille cutouts (though these don’t do much). Although the Porsche Taycan looks like an all-electric vehicle from afar due to its low profile, it actually has less drag coefficient thanks to its unique halo design which allows air to flow over without any interference from traditional side mirrors or door handles!
The interior of the Taycan is more futuristic and modern, with a large touchscreen that dominates the dashboard. Unlike most Porsches, you can customize some elements of the cabin, such as ambient lighting color and seat stitching. It also has more space for passengers as well as ample storage cubbies for things like phones and keys.
The Audi Q8 provides more luxury in its interior design than does the Taycan; it has a gorgeous leather-wrapped steering wheel and metal trim throughout its cabin. The optional “virtual cockpit” display allows you to change between different modes on your screen without taking your eyes off of road ahead—but you have to pay extra if you want this feature on your Q8.
Technology & Safety
The Taycan is the clear winner here. It’s got a full range of active safety features, including adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assist. The Q8 doesn’t have either of those things, but it does come with an automatic emergency braking system. Meanwhile, the Taycan has a more advanced infotainment system than the Q8. It integrates Apple CarPlay and Android Auto into its touchscreen display for easy smartphone connectivity—something you won’t find in Audi’s infotainment system.
The Taycan features an all-electric powertrain, whereas the Audi Q8 runs on a mix of gas and electric power.
The Taycan has an over 600-horsepower engine, which is more powerful than the Audi’s 571 horsepower engine.
The Taycan has a greater range than the Audi Q8 of 250 miles (405 km) per charge, compared to 170 miles (274 km).
The Taycan has more torque than its competitor at 626 lb.-ft. versus 516 lb.-ft., respectively.
The Bottom Line
The 2022 Porsche Taycan is a much better choice for those who are willing to spend money, but it’s also the better car overall. It has more power and less range anxiety than the 2022 Audi Q8. If you want to save some cash while still getting an awesome electric luxury SUV with excellent performance and great battery life, then go with the 2022 Porsche Taycan.
