2022 Porsche Panamera vs. 2022 Ferrari Portofino

The 2022 Porsche Panamera is an extravagant vehicle with advanced gadgetry, incredible acceleration, and enough space to seat a family of four. But how does it compare to the 2022 Ferrari Portofino, a car which has received acclaim for its bodacious exterior, dual turbo V8 and world class performance?

Design & Style

The Ferrari Portofino is a convertible which has a masterfully sculpted body. Though it officially seats four passengers, practically speaking the backseats are so small that they are useless for adults. It sacrifices seating space for speed and its latest feature for this year is greater power with a drive mode that is race oriented.

The Porsche Panamera is a true four seater, with backseats that can comfortably hold two adults. While most versions are equipped with a V6 engine that is turbocharged buyers also have the option of a hybrid plugin or V8. It sits on twenty one inch wheels with an infotainment system that has been upgraded and the addition of Apple CarPlay and podcasts. Those that purchase the Executive variant will get an extended wheelbase with extra backseat legroom.

Technology & Safety

Porsche sets itself apart from other supercar manufacturers by incorporating driver assistance into all its vehicles. This includes the Panamera, which comes with standard features like lane management as well as optional gear like night vision, emergency automated brakes, frontal collision alerts, blind area monitoring and adapted cruise control. Luxuries inside its cabin include wifi, twelve inch touch displays, climate control, powered seats that can be heated or cooled and a navigation system with premium audio.

Ferrari has also added driver assistance to the Portofino, which includes pedestrian detection, blind area monitoring, adapted cruise control and emergency automated brakes. Luxuries inside its cabin include ten inch touch displays, navigation system, leather upholstery and powered seats that can be adjusted eighteen ways. There is also a wind deflector which quiets the cabin whenever its top has been dropped, which is a nifty feature.

Performance

The Ferrari Portofino is equipped with a V8, dual turbo engine that is 3.9 liter and capable of generating 612 horsepower with the ability to accelerate from zero to sixty in 3.1 seconds with a top speed of 199 miles per hour. Those that purchase the Porsche Panamera 4S E-Hybrid will get an engine that can generate 552 horsepower with the ability to accelerate from zero to sixty in 3.2 seconds, with a top speed of 186 miles per hour.

The Bottom Line

Both vehicles are nearly tied when it comes to performance, but what separates them is seating capacity. Though technically a 4 seater, the Portofino only seats two comfortably, which means carrying 4 adults is out of the question, and this combined with its fussy and touch sensitive cabin controls, unrefined hybrid braking system and inadequate cargo space makes the Panamera the winner.
