2022 Porsche 718 Boxster vs. 2022 Mercedes-Benz GT

The Porsche 718 Boxster has been on the market for some time now, but it has still managed to keep its charm. However, the Germans are not going to let their sales figures go down without a fight and have decided to take on the newcomer by releasing their version of an entry-level sports car: the 2022 Mercedes-Benz GT. So which one is better? Let’s find out!

Design & Style

  • Exterior Design

The 2022 Porsche 718 Boxster has a more aggressive front fascia with larger air intakes and a wider track than its predecessor. The GT also has more pronounced front fascias, with smaller air inlets and a larger bumper.

The 2022 Mercedes-Benz GT is nearly two inches longer than the Boxster, but it’s an inch shorter on each side and slightly lower (by 0.4 inches) as well. The GT also features unique taillights that extend into the trunk lid to create visual balance with its low nose; the Boxster doesn’t have any such styling touches on its rear end.

  • Interior Design

The 2022 Porsche 718 Boxster has a much more minimalist look than the 2022 Mercedes-Benz GT. There’s no center console at all, just an armrest with controls for the climate control and infotainment system. The dash is dominated by three large LCD screens in a floating arrangement, with the middle one being a touchscreen that can be used to control almost everything in the car. The whole interior feels very light and airy, with lots of leather covering almost every surface you might touch while driving.

The 2022 Mercedes-Benz GT also has leather covering nearly every surface you might touch while driving (but there’s less of it). In addition, there are some buttons on either side of the steering wheel so you can still operate things like cruise control without looking down at your knee or reaching over to shake hands with yourself through a time when no one else is around.

Technology & Safety

The 718 Boxster is a track-focused car, so it has more technological features aimed at making the car better in that environment.

One of its best features, the Porsche Communication Management (PCM) system with navigation and Bose® surround audio sound system, allows you to adjust your settings using buttons on the steering wheel or touchscreen. It also uses Bluetooth® connectivity to sync your phone with your PCM system. That way, calls, and texts are displayed on the screen so that you can see them without taking your eyes off of the road as much as possible—but beware: if you have an Android phone running version 7.0 or newer (which most don’t), this feature may not work well for you because it does not support Android Auto™ technology yet!

Performance

The 2022 Porsche 718 Boxster is powered by a 2.0-liter flat-six engine that produces 315 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. This is mated to a seven-speed PDK gearbox, which lets it go from zero to 60 mph in 4.8 seconds on its way to an electronically limited top speed of 180 mph.

The 2022 Mercedes-Benz GT has two engines available: a 3.0 liter V6 with two turbochargers and twin scroll exhaust manifolds that produce 362 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque that hits 60 mph in 3 seconds flat on its way to 195 mph top speed.

The Bottom Line

When it comes to the 2022 Porsche 718 Boxster vs. the 2022 Mercedes-Benz GT, there’s no question about which car is better. While the Mercedes-Benz GT is an impressive machine, it simply can’t compete with the 2022 Porsche 718 Boxster. The Porsche offers a more comfortable interior and a better overall driving experience than its German counterpart.
