Design & Style
The 2022 Porsche 718 Boxster is a very attractive sports car. The front end has a strong resemblance to the 911, but the resemblance ends there—the rest of it looks like nothing else on the road. The grille is minimal, with no vertical slats or horizontal bars; instead, it’s just an air intake behind a mesh grill. The headlights are full-LED units that move as you steer in each direction; they’re not quite as sleek as those on some newer Porsches (like the 992 911 and 986 Cayenne), but they certainly get the job done and look great doing it.
The back end of this car makes up for any shortcomings in the front grille area: It’s gorgeous! There are two little “nostrils” in each side air intake that were designed to channel air through ducts running along either side of the rear decklid spoiler; when viewed from above or below, these nostrils make you think about how good your bank account must be if you can afford such things as heating ducts for your car’s undercarriage.
Porsche, as a brand, has always been known for their impeccable interior design. This is not just true of the 911 but also applies to their other models like the 718 Boxster. The 2022 Porsche 718 Boxster comes with a complete redesign in terms of its interior, and it does not disappoint. The dashboard is made from lightweight materials, which makes the car feel extremely light on its feet. It looks great too!
The 2022 Cadillac ATS-V comes with an excellent cabin that can compare to any European car out there today. Its interior design is sleek and modern looking, thanks to its minimalist approach, but it still manages to pack plenty of tech into this small car’s cabin without making it look cluttered or tacky!
Technology & Safety
Both cars are equipped with a range of modern safety features, but Cadillac’s ATS-V features a few more. The 718 Boxster S has automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, whereas the ATS-V has automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection as well as lane departure warnings. The 718 Boxster S also offers blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.
Performance
The base 2022 Porsche 718 Boxster has a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that makes 300 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque. The 2022 Cadillac ATS-V, on the other hand, has a 3.6-liter twin-turbo V6 that produces 420 hp and 376 lb-ft of torque—a good amount more than its German competitor.
The difference in power is even more noticeable when you compare the two cars’ acceleration times from 0 to 60 mph: 4 seconds for the Porsche 718 Boxster versus 3.8 seconds for the ATS-V—a significant difference for something with less than 100 hp on paper!
The Bottom Line
The 2022 Boxster is the clear winner in this comparison, although it’s important to note that both cars are excellent sports cars. The Cadillac actually comes with more standard features at lower prices, but those features don’t include a sunroof or navigation system. If those options are important to you and your budget, then the ATS-V is still a good choice.
For our money, though, we’d go with the 718 Boxster because of its sharp handling and impressive overall performance—not just for its straight-line speed but also for how it feels when you’re cornering through twisty mountain roads or driving on an open highway at high speeds.
